I've been lucky to know Randy Olson and Melissa Farlow for more than 25 years, since our time together at the University of Missouri. We were earning masters degrees and they taught - Randy taught me most of what I know about how to light, including how to see it. Much later, I had the privilege of working with Melissa on a story about the Hudson Valley while at National Geographic magazine.
So it is with great pleasure that I let you know about the gallery show opening of their work here in Portland tomorrow night at iwitness gallery, 1028 SE Water Ave., Ste. 50, downstairs from Bunk Bar and across the street from Clarklewis Restaurant.
Make every effort to get there. It'll be worth your while to see this show.
Randy and Melissa are each phenomenal photographers on their own. This show combines some of their greatest images together, in pairings that create something more than either image alone. It's like Wonder Twins have been activated with every pairing.
I've watched these pairing evolve for the past couple years and offered my two cents as they progressed and evloved, were refined and remixed, honed to a series of dual reckonings that pique emotions galore.
What a treat. I hope to see you there.
